As a musician I take teaching very seriously and have a strong passion for it as well. I feel it's something you should do only if you really enjoy it and care about seeing one's development in their ability as a player. For me that's a great feeling - knowing that I have helped someone learn something new.

I know for a fact that there are teachers out there who will take a student's money not caring even a little if he or she is progressing at their instrument, whether it's due to lack of practice on the student's part or the teacher's inability to get ideas across to the pupil. Personally, if I feel there is little to no improvement with a student, I need to know why and fix it. I feel that being honest with a student is very important. If you are not doing well, I will not just smile, pat you on the back and send you along.

This brings me to my next point. Attitude is just as, maybe more important than skill and talent. If you want to learn you will learn! However, the opposite applies too. A positive attitude toward learning makes a lesson fun as well as educational.  I once read a quote in an issue of Modern Drummer "My goal today is to be better than I was yesterday. What's yours?" I agree whole heartedly with this statement.

If you also agree with all the above, then great! This is the place for you. Send me an email (keith@keithmcgonigle.com) and we can start up soon.
